  150. I doubt that the readership of this news group would necessarily care to
  151. receive a complete history of SEDS.  There may be several individual readers
  152. out there that are interested.  In any event, the current leadership of SEDS
  153. is in the process of putting together a booklet describing the organization's
  154. first 10 years, with special sections written by long time members like myself.
  155. This booklet will not be completed until sometime next year, but when it is
  156. completed, I will post a message to sci.space to that effect.  At that point,
  157. any interested readers out there can e-mail me requesting a copy of the
  158. booklet and I will see that one is sent to you.

  200. This list does change.  Slowly.  It only changes when the members
  201. of s.s. have something to add, correct, etc.  I no longer have time to
  202. read s.s., and the SNR is too low.  So if this
  203. does not change it is more a reflection of the other people
  204. you are reading, and not me.  Think about that for a moment.

  208. This is a list of frequently asked questions on SPACE (which goes back
  209. before 1980).  It is developing.  Good summaries will be accepted
  210. in place of the answers given here.  The point of this is to circulate
  211. existing information, and avoid rehashing old answers.  Better to
  212. build on top than start again.  Nothing more depressing than rehashing
  213. old topics for the 100th time.  References are provided because they
  214. give more complete information than any short generalization.
  215.  
  216. Questions fall into three basic types:
  217. 1) Where do I find some information about space?
  218. Try you local public library first.  You do know how to use a library, don't
  219. you?  Can't tell these days.  The net is not a good place to ask for
  220. general information.  Ask INDIVIDUALS if you must.  There are other sources,
  221. use them, too.  The net is a place for open ended discussion.
  222.  
  223. 2) I have an idea which would improve space flight?
  224. Hope you aren't surprised but 9,999 out of 10,000 have usually been
  225. thought of before.  Again, contact a direct individual source for
  226. evaluation.  NASA fields thousands of these each day.
  227.  
  228. 3) Miscellanous queries.  Sorry, have to take them case by case.
  229.  
  230. Initially, this message will be automatically posted once per month
  231. and hopefully, we can cut it back to quarterly.  In time questions and
  232. good answers will be added (and maybe removed, nah).

  234. 1) What happen to Saturn V plans? What about reviving the Saturn V
  235. as a heavy-lift launcher?

  237. Possible but very expensive -- tools, subcontractors, plans, facilities
  238. are gone or converted for the shuttle, and would need rebuilding,
  239. re-testing, or even total redesign.

  313. the absorbance at 21.1 cm?  Do the spacecraft actually have powerful
  314. enough transmitters and sensitive enough receivers to actually detect
  315. each other?

  318. directions, and we're trying to measure a teensy-weensy delta between
  319. the background measured by spacecraft X minus the same background from
  320. the same direction measured by spacecraft Y?
